Introducing everyone’s favorite brunch main course and one of the most famous food trends of the 21st century: avocado toast. The creamy avocado spread on toasted bread is the perfect blank slate for a whole host of savory and sweet toppings.

This is the easiest avocado toast recipe you will ever need. You’ll love avocado toast because it’s packed with healthy fats and fiber, keeping you satisfied until your next meal.

What is avocado toast made of?

Bread and avocados are the required makeup for avocado toast. Whether you prefer white, whole wheat, gluten-free, sourdough, rye bread or potato, any bread will be delicious, especially if it is toasted, brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with salt! The key to the perfect avocado toast is using avocados at their maximum ripeness. The toast should be firm enough to hold the avocado puree without buckling, but not so dark that the flavor overpowers everything else.

This is how you make avocado toast

Ingredients

  • ½ small avocado
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 slice of whole wheat bread, toasted
  • ½ teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon flaky sea salt or crushed red pepper for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix ½ avocado, ½ teaspoon lemon juice, ⅛ teaspoon salt, and pepper to taste in a small bowl. Mash gently with the back of a fork.
  2. Top with 1 slice of toasted bread with the mashed avocado mixture. Drizzle with ½ teaspoon olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and/or crushed red pepper, if desired.

Options:

To make this avocado toast into a lunch, add a few strips of bacon and top it off with an over-easy fried egg or sliced ​​hard-boiled egg as a protein source!

Another option is to top the avocado with homemade or store-bought pico de gallo. This easy topping tastes like breakfast guacamole.

And for a sweet avocado toast. Omit the crushed red pepper and top with fresh mango, coconut chips and a nice drizzle of honey for a sweet and creamy twist on the classic toast.
