Building A Balanced Lifestyle While Working Full Time

Do you sometimes feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? This is a common feeling, especially for those who work full-time. It can be difficult to lead a balanced lifestyle when you have work and other responsibilities, but there are things that you can do that will help you create a healthy, enjoyable, and balanced lifestyle for yourself.

Why Work-Life Balance Matters More Than Ever

Recent UK statistics show that work-life balance has become a top priority for employees, with 83% of workers ranking it above pay when considering jobs, while 76% believe a four-day work week would improve balance. There has also been a rise in sick days and mental-health related absences in recent times – CIPD reports that UK employees are taking the most sick days in 15 years, largely driven by stress and mental illness.

Structuring Your Time Effectively

First, you should structure your time effectively so that you can dedicate enough time to the key areas in your life. Time-blocking, prioritising tasks, and setting boundaries around working hours are key. The expansion of hybrid and remote work has provided greater flexibility in recent times, with ONS data showing that 28% of workers engage in hybrid working, but lower-paid workers have less access to this flexibility.

Setting Boundaries And Planning For The Future

Setting boundaries is crucial for being present and making the most out of your free time. Many find it helpful to disconnect by not checking emails after working hours, digital detoxing at weekends, and setting clear end-of-day work rituals. You also need to think about the future and set long-term career and personal goals, and adopt daily habits that align with these goals. If you are ever injured in the workplace, you can make an accident at work claim to reduce stress and protect your financial and emotional wellbeing.

Prioritising Self-Care: Physical And Mental Health

Self-care is essential for overall well-being. This means prioritising restful sleep, healthy nutrition, and regular physical activity. Micro breaks during work can also be helpful for preventing burnout. Stress-reduction techniques like mindfulness, walking, and short exercise breaks can be helpful.

Creating Supportive Workplace Relationships

It is also essential to create supportive workplace relationships – these are people that you spend a huge amount of time with. This means communicating with managers and colleagues about workload, flexible hours, and any wellbeing challenges. Be sure to make use of employer resources, such as Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) or occupational health services.

It might seem impossible to fit everything into your daily lifestyle, but there are things you can do to create a healthy balance, even when you work full-time. The advice in this post should be useful and help you make a few simple changes that will give you a healthy work-life balance while improving your physical and mental wellbeing.
