Growing up, many of us were told, “Always be true to yourself.” What does that really mean? And how do you stay faithful to someone you’re not quite sure about yet? Life is a balancing act, and every decision we make along the way helps shape us into the individuals we become. We may find that the decisions we make are difficult, and although the path we take is bumpy, it ultimately ends up in a Garden of Eden. But to reach that reward, we must have stayed on that bumpy road – going through everything that had to be experienced to open the doors of paradise. On the other hand, we may discover that the decisions we make are not difficult at all. In that case you sail through life and reap the benefits. Life becomes – in essence – your daily Garden of Eden.
Everyone’s path is different, and while the reasons may not be crystal clear, the stops along the way help shape you as an individual. Tomorrow is uncertain. And in that regard, that is also the case today. We don’t know what life will bring us or what surprises – good or bad – will be at our doorstep. But one thing is certain: the only person you are guaranteed to spend the rest of your life with is you. So even as you’re trying to figure out who you are and what your purpose in life is, take a moment to just enjoy the person you’re with: you!
Celebrate what makes you unique. Laugh at your own funny jokes. Look at your ‘flaws’ from a different perspective; one day they could become your greatest assets. Start listening to your body and what it is trying to communicate to you. And thank your body for supporting you through all the ups and downs, rights and wrongs, lefts and rights. Know that there will likely be more bumps in the road in the future, but if you are happy with who you are right now, you will find comfort and joy in the journey ahead.
