Daabon: The Pioneers of Sustainable Palm

As the very first ingredient company to offer certified organic palm oil, Daabon remains a role model for sustainability, reforestation and admirable business practices. For WishGarden it’s a no-brainer partnership!

Purchasing is important

Choosing the right solvents is crucial when making a tincture. After all, it is the solvents that make it a tincture. At WishGarden we have carefully selected a trio of solvents for our tinctures, consisting of organic alcohol, organic and sustainable palm glycerin and Eldorado spring water. Glycerin effectively extracts active ingredients from raw plant material and is naturally sweet with a thick consistency. Glycerin makes a tincture not only effective, but also pleasant in taste. Because sustainability is one of our core brand pillars and glycerin is an ingredient in every formula we make, we wanted to ensure that the cultivation of the palm used was not only non-destructive to the land, but also rejuvenating.

Setting the standards

Daabon achieved the goals of the Paris Agreement (climate change treaty) ten years earlier. In fact, they were among the first hundred signatories to join the climate pledge. The pledge includes regular reporting, elimination of carbon emissions and credible offsets. If that’s not impressive enough, their reforestation and restoration program appears to be strengthening ecosystems and leaving the earth better restored than before. Using satellite images of the land prior to their work, Daabon can ensure that they leave the land lush and the soil nourished, rather than devoid and stripped of nutrients, which is common with conventional palm farming. Fortunately, Daabon also has green fingers in other agricultural sectors, such as bananas, cocoa, coffee, grains and even soap bases.

Why Palm?

While it’s true that there are other sources of glycerin that are more readily available or cheaper than palm oil, it’s not worth skimping. Palm requires less land than many other crops used for oil. And because it is a tropical plant, it does not need to be changed, the soil is not disturbed and the tree remains intact after harvest. Not only is palm’s crop yield very efficient, it is also harvested all year round, meaning it is not at risk of crop failure, unlike soy, for example. The use is versatile! You can use palm to make soap and other body products, for oils used in cooking and baking, and in making traditional herbal medicines.

We are proud to partner and collaborate with Daabon and hope other companies and leaders can follow us in their low carbon footprint.
