Tell us a little about your background

I am a native Coloradan. I’ve lived north of Denver all my life. I grew up in a pharmaceutical family. I visited my grandmother in the Walden mountains and she lived off the land. I think this inspired me to be more natural in my way of life, which was the opposite of how I was raised. I studied at Herbalism Roots in Denver to become a certified herbalist. I have been in the supplement industry for 11 years now and just received my doula certification!

What sparked your interest in becoming a certified herbalist?

Working in the health food industry opened my eyes to a lot of health and environmental issues, so that turned my attention to supplements, but since I’m such a plant lover, I turned to herbs. The first time I used an herb for personal health reasons, I used pure lavender tincture and it helped me immensely. My interest grew after that.

Tell us more about your journey to becoming a doula

I became interested in becoming a doula because my sister just had a baby, so for the first time I’m an aunt! I’ve always been attracted to women and how cool and creative our bodies are. Now that WishGarden has been established as a midwife, I continue to think about what I want when I have children. Midwifery is not my calling, but I wanted to learn more about creating a safe space and providing safe herbs to women throughout their entire motherhood journey – before, during and after birth. The doula training was not exactly what I expected. I thought it would be more physiology focused, but most of the course was about energy and the spiritual side of things. It emphasized how a woman’s body at the moment of birth is a portal from one world to another. Birth used to be more ceremonial, but as a society we have lost sight of that. A doula does not intervene, but maintains a safe space, supports the woman’s decision, acts as an advocate, and supports a woman from preconception to postpartum.

What is your role at WishGarden?

I am a customer journey leader and in-house DSHEA consultant. My role includes customer service activities, assisting our customers using my herbal knowledge, writing educational blogs, teaching classes and simply supporting the community. As a DHSEA consultant, I ensure that all written communications are DSHEA compliant.

What is your favorite part about working at WishGarden?

I love that I can stay on top of the conversation as it relates to herbal medicine and the herbal world. Our work culture is highly collaborative and has a family atmosphere; we all support each other.

What is your favorite WishGarden formula?

Lately it’s been Serious V-fighter. It kept me going all winter. It is a very effective immune product.

What is your spirit herb?

Osha – There is a sacred sadness in it, it is taken for granted, but it is so powerful and strong – you can use the root again and again. It reminds us that we must be sustainable.
