Irish Sourdough Sourdough Toss: A family favorite for St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is a time for celebration, and what better way to celebrate than with a delicious and traditional Irish soda bread? This year I’m sharing one of my family’s favorite recipes: Irish Sourdough Sourdough Bread. Not only is this recipe delicious, but it’s also a great way to use up your leftover sourdough scraps. This is the inactive sourdough starter that you throw away when you feed your starter.

I’ve always loved Irish soda bread. It’s a little sweet, a little dense and has a beautiful crumb that’s perfect for spreading butter or jam. It’s also a very simple bread to make, which is why it has become a staple of our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

This recipe for Irish Soda Bread with Sourdough Waste is adapted from Ina Garden, and it’s one of my favorites. It’s easy to follow and the results are always delicious. The bread is made with flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, egg, buttermilk and raisins. Using sourdough scraps adds a subtle tartness to the bread that I really enjoy.
