For those of you continuing to follow, we have recently reformulated our Deep Stress Formula. Chances are you’re wondering: why? What leads to a reformulation? For all those burning questions, we decided to sit down with the brains behind the operation to get the full scoop on this newly optimized fan favorite.

First, tell us a little about your role at WishGarden.

My working title is VP Business Development, but my fun title is Manifester and Maker. I am head of research and development and co-formulate with Catherine, the founder of WishGarden.

Why did we reformulate Deep Stress?

Originally there were 12 herbs in this formula, and we hope to reach a maximum number of herbs per formula, because then you get to a point where there is repetition and redundancy. And what ends up happening is that excess herbs actually have a diminishing effect on unique herbs. Deep Stress now has 8 powerful herbs.

Initially, WishGarden focused on bioregional herbalism (herbs grown locally), and while we still prioritize local sourcing, only a limited number of herbs grow here. We found this approach very limiting. By opening up our sourcing to a larger geographic area, we were able to source more diverse herbs.

Another consideration is botanical safety. Research is constantly emerging, so the Botanical Safety Manual is updated often. We always stay abreast of these changes and conduct full portfolio reviews. It is important to perform your due diligence regularly to avoid contraindications or new risks for our pregnant or lactating population.

Tell us about the reformulation process

We approached the reformulation from multiple directions. We looked at the herbs that were already in it, why they were in it and what it brought to the table. For our second approach, we started from scratch so we could gain a new perspective. How would we build this from scratch?

It is important to note that introducing a new herb into the business has its own process. We look at sustainability, whether it is organic, whether it is sourced domestically, whether it has a consistent supply chain, and of course the safety considerations. We examine the profile of the plant compound and determine which solvent system will extract the compounds we are looking for. We then do tests for efficacy and taste. Once we are satisfied, we make sure the labels are up to date and go to market!

What does deep stress do?

It is a tighter, more functional formula than before. This formula contains adaptogens, nerve cells and nutrient-rich botanicals to support acute and chronic stress on the nervous system and adrenal glands. It focuses on stress that manifests in both physical and mental physiology. It is specifically designed to work on three levels in the body. It supports healthy stress response and adrenal response, and nutritional nerves support the nervous system.

It is also designed to work on all three levels of needs across the board. This includes support when you really feel it, as well as body-protective support during an ongoing stressful period. It is also useful at a deeper tonic recovery level in recovering from long-term adrenal gland exhaustion.

What’s the most exciting part of this formula?

We are excited to include Ashwagandha as a new botanical in this formula reboot. It has become one of the most recognized and popular herbal ingredients to support daily stress management and wellness. And as such, it’s a great addition that checks all the boxes of this formula and boosts its efficacy that much further.
