As summer vacation comes to an end, it’s time for children and their parents to return from a more relaxed schedule to a routine that supports physical and mental well-being during the school year. Establishing a consistent routine is essential for children as it promotes a sense of stability, discipline and overall health. Here are some tools and practices you can start implementing now so the whole family can transition seasons with ease!

  1. Establish a consistent routine
  • To ease the transition from summer to school, you can start by gradually adjusting bedtime and wake-up times a week or two before school starts. A consistent sleep schedule is essential for children’s physical growth, cognitive development and behavioral patterns. Also keep in mind that younger children need more sleep.
  • Schedule a specific time each evening for homework, reading, or studying. This helps children develop a sense of ownership and responsibility. It also ensures that they have enough time to complete tasks with deadlines and prevents procrastination.
  1. Nutrients for optimal focus and energy
  • A balanced and nutrient-dense diet plays a crucial role in supporting children’s health and their ability to concentrate in the classroom. Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins in their meals and especially in school lunches.
  • Make breakfast a priority as it fuels their body and mind for the day ahead. Add fresh fruit and healthy fats that support energy and brain health.
  • Snacks are essential! Offer options such as sliced fruit with nut or seed butter, vegetables with hummus or dip, or whole-grain crackers with cheese.
  1. Herbal supplements to support routine
  2. Including herbal supplements can be helpful in supporting children’s overall well-being and maintaining a healthy routine. Always consult a healthcare professional before giving supplements to children.

  • Daily Immune Builder: Starring elderberry and astragalus, Daily Immune Builder For Kids is nourishing and strengthening, but gentle enough to use daily for a healthy immune response. It is a good idea to start the formula a few weeks before their first day of school, and throughout the cold season, to ensure strong defense.

  • Congestion Rescue: If a bug invades the body, this formula is here to save the day. It supports a healthy respiratory system and soothes discomfort associated with illness. Whether it’s phlegm or a nagging cough that’s keeping the whole family awake, this herbal team comes to the rescue.

  • Attention Ally: The Information Age requires more brain power from all of us. Our children learn in new and innovative ways, very different from our upbringing. This formula offers support for children with attention problems and in times when more focus is needed, such as studying or doing homework. It promotes cognitive function, memory and focus.

  • Sleepy nights: This one is a given, especially since all our sleep schedules change with the seasons. It is gentle, non-addictive and melatonin free. It contains herbs such as passionflower and milky oatmeal to calm the nervous system and calm the mind’s chatter.

A few other tips to support your children include increasing regular physical activity and reducing screen time of all kinds! Exercise is crucial for children’s physical health, mood and mental well-being. Encourage them to participate in active play, sports, arts, or after-school activities that they enjoy. Excessive screen time can disrupt sleep and contribute to sedentary behavior. Set clear limits on screen time and encourage children to participate in other activities, such as reading, playing outside, or pursuing hobbies and interests.

The transition from a carefree summer to a structured school routine can be challenging for both children and parents. However, by incorporating consistent schedules, balanced nutrition, and appropriate herbal supplements, parents can help their children get into a healthy back-to-school routine. Parents lead by example, those who prioritize their own well-being will inspire their children to do the same. With the right approach and support, children will thrive in the new school year, academically, socially and emotionally!
