Halloween is one of my favorite holidays (right there with Christmas and New York Fashion Week). It’s the perfect time to tune into your ~inner witch~ or whatever spooky persona you’ve been wanting to channel. And while it might seem like a kids’ holiday, it’s actually a prime opportunity for couples to get creative and playful.
“Creating fun memories together can lead to a closer relationship for couples, as it gives them something to reminisce on and a positive lens to see each other through,” Suzannah Weiss, resident sexologist for Biird and author of Subjectified: Becoming a Sexual Subject, tells FemmeFunn. “It can bring out your playful sides and give you a sense that you’re a team if you dress in matching costumes,” Weiss adds.
So, if you and your partner(s) weren’t planning on doing anything this Halloween, you might want to reconsider. Not only can Halloween costumes provide some much-needed fun and silliness (and strengthen your bond), but they can also be hella sexy.
“Costumes can help you explore sides of yourselves you don’t normally explore, like your dark side, silly side, or sexy side, depending on what the costume is,” says Weiss, adding, “ Because there’s no other time of year where you get to do this, it’ll leave a lasting imprint in your mind.”
Ready to get inspired? We’ve rounded up five couples Halloween costume ideas that are equal parts playful, hilarious, and sexy (in case you want to take things from the streets to the sheets).
Superheros
Superhero costumes are easy to make, and they’re ideal for power couples who want to flaunt (or work on) their teamwork, communication skills, and ability to support one another.
“Most of us have some superhero who turns us on, whether it’s Catwoman, Superman, Supergirl, Wonderwoman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine, or Captain America,” says Weiss. “So, dress up as each other’s superhero crushes and use your powers for good by acting out fantasies inspired by them — share an upside-down kiss as Spiderman and Mary Jane Watson, or experience Catwoman’s whip if that’s your thing, and you’ve discussed consent and safewords!”
Guard and Prisoner
On the flip side, you can channel a more illicit power dynamic. Being a guard and prisoner can totally work for couples who enjoy a little suspense and deviation from their everyday lives.
“Go for a sexy leather uniform for her if she’s the guard, or a well-tailored police uniform for him if he’s taking that role,” licensed sexologist and relationship therapist and author at the sex-positive magazine Passionerad Sofie Roos tells FemmeFunn. “Also, make sure to buy handcuffs…”
Cave-people
A cave person costume may not seem sexy, but according to Weiss, this costume choice can be a fun way to tap into your primal, uninhibited sides.
“Fun fact: people in Paleolithic times were thought to be some of the sluttiest,” says Weiss. “There’s evidence of females regularly mating with multiple males at a time,” she adds. “Not suggesting you need to have a gang bang in cave-people costumes, but they might help bring out your primal, slutty side, especially if you go for a minimal-coverage piece like a loincloth.”
Doctor and Nurse
The doctor-nurse combo is a Halloween costume classic — and for good reason. While it might seem a bit cliché at first, don’t dismiss this classic costume just yet! There are tons of ways you could do this couple’s costume up without the stereotypical “naughty nurse” vibes. (But, if that’s what you want to do, go for it!) For example, for someone with a praise kink, the doctor could comment on how well the nurse is at “following orders.” Or, switch up the power dynamic and have the “doctor” or “nurse” tend to a wounded “patient” instead. The key is to find a balance that’s fun for both of you and celebrates your genuine interests and turn-ons.
If you and your partner are experienced kinksters, you could experiment with restraints (on a gurney), sounding, or other medfet fantasies, like role-playing an emergency room visit or a surgical procedure. Again, just be sure to establish consent, boundaries, and safewords ahead of time to ensure you’re both comfortable with the roleplay.
Candy
If you’re looking for something more inconspicuous but still playful and flirty, a candy-themed couple costume could be the way to go.
“Dress as something delicious and then eat each other up,” says Weiss. “You can dress up as your favorite candy bars, lollipops, and other sweet things, and you can even wear edible undies or bras underneath or change into them for a treat later that night.”
The bottom line? Have fun!
There are literally thousands of couples Halloween costume ideas. Think of this as a quick-start guide of easy-to-make costumes you can build upon to make them your own. If you want to get a little more sinister, Roos recommends going as a nun and priest “where the sinned atmosphere is extremely hot.”
If you and your partner are on the sillier side, campy costumes like characters from your favorite childhood shows or movie duos like Fred and Wilma or Morticia and Gomez can make for equally memorable costumes. Or, if pet play is your thing, a tail butt plug and some kitten ears could be a fun at-home option for couples who’d rather stay in for the night.
Remember, have fun, be safe, and don’t be afraid to let your naughty side show.
