In this blog we explore her journey, her philosophy and the meaningful ways she spreads healing sounds to those around her.

Meet Carole Westerman: Sharing the power of healing sounds

With more than two decades of experience in the areas of yoga, coaching, mindfulness and mental health, Carole helps people reconnect with themselves, cultivate resilience and lead with emotional intelligence.

Her approach combines the grounded presence of yoga with the strategic tools of integrative coaching. She also has both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology, and her career has included nonprofits, private practice, and leadership roles in human services. From therapist and crisis coordinator to child advocate and parent educator, she has always been driven by a deep commitment to mental wellness and human flourishing. For more information about Carole, visit her website: Evolve towards harmony.

We recently spoke with Carole to learn more about her journey, her experiences at The Sound Healing Academy, and her advice for anyone interested in exploring the world of sound healing.

Can you tell us about your journey with sound healing, from when you first became interested in it to this day?

“I was first introduced to sound as a form of healing during my first visit to South Indiawhere I experienced the transformative effects of both mantra and Tibetan singing bowls.

That experience opened a door for meand I deepened my knowledge during three successive trips to northern India, where I studied the bowls and their traditions in more detail.

In the same time frame, I have visited countless sound baths in the United States, which gave me extensive exposure to different approaches. What I found is that sound is both powerful and subtle; it resonates on levels beyond words, and in many ways it transcends language altogether!”

What drew you to study sound healing at The Sound Healing Academy, and what was your experience learning here like?

“Although I had traveled to India and collected many instruments over the years, I never felt quite confident enough to share sound healing until I received my training at The Sound Healing Academy.

The program was recommended to me repeatedly by my yoga students and fellow students, and when I finally signed up, I understood why!

The training has paid off for me both the knowledge and the structure I neededas well as the encouragement to really integrate sound share in my work.”

Have you taken our online courses, workshops or a combination of both? How have these formats shaped your learning experience?

“I started with the Online course Crystal singing bowls level 1and then completed the Personal workshop for multiple instruments in Santa Fe with Adrienne.

I appreciated the convenience and accessibility of online learningwhile the personal experience offered a strong sense of community and a profound impact. Together, the two formats created a powerful combination, both flexible and deeply compelling!”

How has sound healing impacted your life personally and professionally?

“Sound healing has been such a gift in my own life.

It helps me Find peace, balance and a deeper sense of connectionespecially in stressful or uncertain times. Professionally, it has opened up a whole new way to support otherswhether I integrate instruments into yoga or simply hold space for people to experience silence.

It has expanded both my toolbox and my perspectiveallowing me to reach people in ways that words or movements alone cannot always reach.”

Have you observed remarkable changes in the lives of others through your healthy healing practice?

“People really love it and describe it often feel deeply relaxed afterwards.

Many request sound healing time and time again, and it is not uncommon for participants to fall asleep during a session, showing how restorative the experience can be!

I noticed that too people leave with a softer energyas if they have reset their nervous system and allowed themselves to completely rest.”

Are you currently working on sound healing professionally? If so, can you tell us more about your work and what it entails?

“I integrate sound healing into many areas of my work.

I incorporate it into my yoga classesshare it with various organizations through workplace wellness and leadership programs, and also weave it into sessions with my coaching clients.

During my retreats I offer sound healingwhere people can experience it in a more immersive way, often combined with yoga, nature and personal growth practices. These retreat settings offer individuals a powerful opportunity to step away from their everyday lives and truly immerse themselves in the healing potential of sound.

I’ve worked with a wide range of people, from teenagers to adults, and I love how sound can meet everyone exactly where they are!”

What advice would you give to someone considering a journey to healthy healing?

“I would say: trust your curiosity and start.

You don’t need to have all the answers or a huge collection of tools to get started. Even one dish, drumor tuning fork can open the door.

Allow yourself to be a student of soundand first notice how it feels in your own body. The more you experience it personally, the more authentic it will be when you share it with others.

And above all, enjoy the process; healthy healing is both a journey of self-discovery and a way to support others!”

How can you continue to grow and develop your skills as a sound medicine practitioner after your studies?

“For me, growth comes from both study and practice. I continue to learn by attending workshops, connecting with other practitioners and exploring new tools and techniques.

II’m actually going to the Level 2 Sound Bath Diploma Workshop in November to continue my journey with The Sound Healing Academy.

Additionally, every session I offer, whether in a yoga class, with a coaching client, or on a retreat, teaches me something new. I also remain curiousexperimenting with how sound mixes with movement, breath and silence.

I read books on the subject and discover that the sound itself is in many ways the teacher, and that by listening deeply I always increase my understanding!”

How would you describe in a few words your ability to share healing sounds with the world?

“Transformativesoothing, nurturing, very rewarding, surprising, joyful and connect deeply.”

Final thoughts

Carole’s journey is a wonderful example of how healing sounds can touch livesboth her own and that of her community. Her work reminds us of that sound is more than just a tool; it is a bridge to connection, peace and transformation!
