The miracle herb that is gentle enough for everyone: meet Milky Oats. This well-known plant is versatile, highly nutritious and widely used in WishGarden formulas because it is safe for adults, pregnant women and children.

The Botany

Milky Oats belongs to the Poaceae family, also called the grass family. Milky Oats has two Latin names depending on how it is grown. If it is found in the wild, it is called Avena fatua and if it is grown, it is considered Avena sativa. The seed kernel inside Avena fatua is thinner, longer, darker and harrier compared to the Avena sativa seed. It is an annual plant with long, hollow stems and can grow up to 1.20 meters high. The stems have flat, leaf-like leaves with loosely branched inflorescences or flowers that produce golden seeds, although the immature seeds are sought after for medicinal purposes. When the seed is squeezed out, a milky substance is formed, hence the name Milky Oats. Due to its premature condition, it has not yet developed the gluten protein and is therefore considered gluten-free. Other medicinal parts of the plant include oat straw, which can be harvested at any time and usually used in another preparation, such as a nutritious herbal tea.

The advantages

Milky Oats has strong restorative properties and has an affinity for the nervous system. It can help strengthen your vitality and resistance in times of stress, returning the body to homeostasis. Milky Oats are also highly nutritious and contain an abundance of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. In addition, it contains proteins, fats and carbohydrates, which means it is also supportive on a physical level, nourishing the body, strengthening the immune system and supporting overall well-being.

Preparation methods

Preparation methods for consuming milky oats are usually by decoctions (hot water extraction) and tinctures. You can also use the oat straw part of the plant to make a nutritious tea. Oat straw makes a nice base for nutritious tea, and you can add other mineral-rich herbs such as alfalfa. You’ll find Milky Oats in many WishGarden formulas, including Deep Stress Adrenal Rescue with Ashwagandha, Rise & Energize, and Stress Release Tension Tamer for Pregnancy.

It’s almost impossible to list all the restorative properties of the super-powerful Milky Oats. Its numerous medicinal properties provide a full-body experience that everyone can enjoy.
