The month of March marks Women’s History Month. This is a month to reflect on the contributions women have made to society, to celebrate womanhood, to elevate the women in our lives, to celebrate the progress we have made as a society on path to equality, and to honor the work that still needs to be done for full gender equality. Women have influenced, contributed to, and improved every facet of life we interact with every day, and herbal medicine is no different.

There are so many amazing and inspiring female herbalists, and so in honor of this beautiful month, we wanted to share with you a few whose practices have had an impact on the WishGarden team.

Jeannine Parvati

Jeannine Parvati

Jeannine is the author of Hygieia: a herbal herb for women, an encyclopedic work describing how specific herbs can help with woman-specific experiences such as childbirth and menopause. She worked for some time as a midwife, prenatal yoga teacher and activist. She is also credited with popularizing the lotus birth in the United States.

Susan Wiet

Susan Wiet

Susun first became interested in herbal medicine in 1965 and the rest is history. Her first book, Wise women’s herbs for the fertile year, was published in 1986, and many more works followed. She now trains interns and supervises various courses.

Rosemary Gladstar

Rosemary has been writing and teaching about herbs for over 40 years! She is an author, steward and mentor. She is also the founder and president of United Plant Savers, an organization dedicated to the conservation of medicinal plants across the country. And of course we want to honor our own honor:

Catharina Hunziker

Catherine is a senior professional herbalist with over 20 years of experience in herbal formulation and education in her field. She previously taught at one of the first official herbal schools, Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies, in Boulder, Colorado. Now she is the owner of WishGarden Herbs, which has been providing high-quality organic remedies since the beginning of the herbal renaissance and has a reputation for skilled and elegantly effective formulations. Her teaching style is informative, interactive and warm.

We would also like to thank all the other badass women who support us all: our mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, partners, friends, teachers and healers.
