Migraines and Headaches

Do you suffer from headaches and migraines? Sometimes it is difficult to know what is causing the headache. There can be several reasons why headaches can occur, and if you suffer from frequent headaches, this is something to investigate further. Diet, lifestyle, muscle tension, misalignment, hormones can all play a role in headaches.

Stress headache or tension headache – often found at the front of the head as a band around the head. Worse during work or when overloaded. It is usually a dull feeling, not sharp or throbbing. Rest and meditation can often support this type of headache. Homeopathic Nux vomica can also be an excellent acute remedy to use.

Lack of sleep headaches: Headaches can often be caused by insomnia or a long period of poor sleep. Addressing the reason why you are not sleeping well through homeopathy, herbs, nutrition or craniosacral therapy will help support this type of headache.

Hormonal headache – usually progresses into migraines and occurs during ovulation and bleeding during your menstrual cycle. It can happen before, during or after. It often starts at the back of the head and moves across the top of the head. It can be sharp and throbbing. An estimated 60% of women experience hormonal headaches. There are many factors that play a role in hormonal headaches, and it comes down to healthy hormones. I use a combination of craniosacral and homeopathy to support women with hormonal headaches.

Skeletal headache: Caused by misalignment in the body when vision is restricted or after an accident or surgery. I support this through craniosacral therapy by realigning everything and easing restrictions.

Psychological headache: These are often not talked about, but they arise from an excess of metaphysical energy that we have stored. Often this happens to a practitioner or to people who work in the healing industry. People have taken over too much from others and have not let go. Because the head contains the third eye and the crown chakra, these can become overloaded. Practice meditation, reiki, energy healing or cut the cords.

Headache due to diet/intolerance – Located at the front of the head, eyes and sinuses. It can also include congestion in the nose or postnasal drip. This headache is often associated with food intolerance, usually dairy or gluten. But it can also be pollen and other allergens. Once you give up eating and perform some gut healing, the headache should disappear completely. If it is related to pollen or other irritants, a constitutional homeopathic remedy can normally address the body’s overreaction.

Coffee headache: Caffeine affects blood flow to the head; it also dehydrates you. Too much caffeine can cause a headache, and going cold turkey can also cause a foggy, dull headache. Some people cannot process caffeine through the liver and the buildup can cause persistent health side effects such as headaches. When you give up coffee, do it slowly. I often give people CQ10 to get them past the headache phase of quitting coffee because it stops the headaches and fatigue.

Dehydration headache: Not drinking enough water can cause headaches, but these types of headaches usually go away when you drink and rest.

These are just a few of the many types of headaches and migraines. You don’t have to suffer in silence, healing and getting rid of headaches and migraines for good is a passion of mine as a migraine sufferer, I understand how debilitating they can be.
