Now the term Kundalini itself is associated with the various Hindu religions and also with a number of Western mystery schools. As such, there are many conflicting views on Kundalini and many people who will tell you the “right” and “wrong” ways to go about it. I’m going to avoid all of those things as much as possible and simply share what I can confirm from my own experiences.
Each chakra corresponds to something different, for example the throat chakra has to do with communication, among other things. There are a number of websites that do a great job explaining which chakra corresponds to what, so I won’t go into detail here (here is one such website: http://www.poeticmind.co.uk/wellbeing/chakras-and-dantien/
).
In addition to the seven main chakras, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of chakras spread throughout your body. The main chakras are normally the easiest to contact initially, although the chakras in the palms and feet should not be too difficult to feel either. If you face your palms together and hold them a few inches apart, you may now be able to feel your palm chakras.
Now the chakras do not function independently of each other, they are all connected. Even in a very unconscious person, they are at least a little open; if they weren’t, the person would be dead. The chakras themselves are connected through energy channels called nadis, and these energy channels together with the chakras themselves form what is known as the subtle body, the energetic body, or the light body.
Although everyone has an energetic body, it is clear that not everyone is aware of it, so why is that? For most people, the energy flowing through their bodies is just a trickle. Enough to keep them from dying, but not enough to actually live. Their chakras have become blocked, cluttered with emotional baggage, fears and beliefs of limitation. These restrict the flow of energy between chakras, and therefore for the entire being, and also manifest as physical illness.
I’ve mentioned before that the throat chakra has to do with communication, and as such is blocked by things like not expressing yourself, letting people walk all over you, that sort of thing.
So what exactly is Kundalini? There are some differing opinions, some personify Kundalini as a Goddess, but I am going to focus on Kundalini as a process. It is a process of energetic cleansing that ultimately leads to a fully functioning chakra system. Traditionally it is believed to start at the root chakra and work its way up through each chakra, but from my experience and from a few others I have spoken to, it started at the crown chakra and worked its way down. I’ve heard it goes both ways.
The Kundalini process can be ridiculously intense. It’s been described as a freight train running down your spine, and I can personally vouch for that description. For someone who doesn’t really understand what’s going on, it can be very scary. My biggest recommendation is not to resist the process. Trust that the process will bring you what you are ready for. Resistance makes things ten times more difficult and can result in a very painful and frightening process.
As I went through the Kundalini activation, I noticed many changes. My physical sensation became much more sensitive, my previous tunnel vision was gone, and for a while, bothersome noises that had previously not bothered me became a bit painful.
At one point it was as if the entire outside world was born again. What was previously mundane and boring became wonderful, life was suddenly full of adventure and childlike wonder again. The subtle feelings that were initially difficult to get in touch with began to integrate themselves into every aspect of my life. My empathetic connection with others increased tremendously, and I could probably go on and on about all the other changes.
For many, most of what I’ve mentioned here is probably nothing new. This stuff isn’t exactly hidden knowledge among spiritual groups anymore. For others, however, my intention is that this will help them understand what is going on and take away some of the fear they may have.
