Tinnitus is experienced by approximately 20% of the population. Factors that contribute to its occurrence vary from person to person. Various factors may include restricted temporal bones, nerve compression, neuritis, vascular disorders, ear congestion, neck imbalances, persistent noise exposure, clenching and grinding of teeth, TMJ dysfunction, stressors, trauma, and many others.
We must also take into account the spiritual factors: how are we trying to talk to you and what are you not listening to?
What is involved in a craniosacral therapy session?
During a Craniosacral therapy session, there is a consultation period at the beginning of each session during which the CST therapist checks in with you. The therapist will ask you to lie down on the massage bed. They will then start the session by grounding themselves and tapping into your energy. During a CST session, different parts of the body are held very gently. In the case of tinnitus, areas that may be retained include the skull, sacrum, temporal bones, oral cavity, and ears.
In my session I also used energy/reiki, homeopathy and sound healing.
How can craniosacral therapy help tinnitus?
Craniosacral therapy can help some cases of tinnitus very quickly, others gradually and sometimes it makes little difference. In most cases of tinnitus, Craniosacral therapy can improve the client’s situation. CST helps calm the nervous system and improve energy flow around the temporal bones and throughout the body. Even if the symptoms of tinnitus persist, CST can help you change your response to them, in a calm, detached way. CST is also a useful way to approach trauma in the body. Processing trauma in a somatic way can help you feel more relaxed and therefore make tinnitus less bothersome.
How long do I need to see a craniosacral therapist?
A recommended time to visit a Craniosacral Therapist is at least three weeks in a row and then biweekly over a few months. Everyone is different and individual, so we can never know how many treatments will be needed. Once people try CranioSacral Therapy and discover its benefits on the nervous system, they often keep coming back for the maintenance of their health.
How can homeopathy help?
Homeopathy is highly individualized and works to restore balance and support the entire body to heal itself. It can work on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health.
The most suitable prescription is selected based on a detailed, in-depth analysis of the symptoms of the condition as observed in each person. The nature of the noise and associated causes are taken into account.
Buzzing sounds can be effectively treated with the homeopathic medicines China and Salicylic acid. For bell sounds, Chininum Sulph is a good drug choice. Phosphorus is another one of the wonderful homeopathic medicines for tinnitus with buzzing sounds. To counter hissing sounds in the ear, homeopathic medicines Ferrum Picric and Graphites are used. Graphite works well for roaring sounds in the ear, while Manganum Aceticum treats whistling tinnitus best.
These are just a few of the many available remedies that target tinnitus. I also find that a combination of constitutional homeopathy and cranioSacral/Energy healing works best.
Ear candles have also been shown to help tinnitus.
