So the best answer for us today lies somewhere between our current understanding of human biology and the elusive field of ‘energy healing’. using sound for healing purposes is a powerful tool.
We know that our bodies are extremely sensitive to sound. Our brains need stimulation to develop properly and the main source of sensory stimulation while we are growing in the womb is sound/rhythm. During its development, a human fetus is exposed to a number of internal body sounds such as the mother’s heartbeat, breathing, blood circulation and also external sounds that reach the uterus from the outside world and reach our ears through the water in which we are immersed.
I have not distinguished between sound and rhythm here, because it is basically the same phenomenon perceived in two different ways. Just as a series of frames on a film, when projected at the correct speed, is perceived as seamless, fluid motion, a rhythm above the frequency of about 16 Hz (cycles per second) is perceived as sound. This phenomenon is known as auditory flutter fusion or flicker fusion, the ‘flicker threshold’ that separates our perception of rhythm and sound. Above this threshold we still receive a rhythmic stimulus, but its speed (frequency) is interpreted and perceived by the brain as a whole as a tone.
Sound travels through water about four times faster than through air and our bodies are made up of a high percentage of water. Sound has the potential to change the molecular structure of water, so it can have a huge effect on the water in our bodies. Considering that water is a life form that can store memory, the implications are very significant.
Our overall makeup is very sensitive to sound, making the use of sound for healing purposes a powerful tool.
