Winter Is Just Around the Corner

While we are already about a month into the transition to winter, Winter Solstice – on December 21 – officially marks the start of the season. In many seasonal locations, the leaves have almost finished falling and there may even be a dusting of snow on the ground. In preparation for winter, we get out our snow shovels and dust off our winter gear. But we must also prepare our bodies, minds and souls for the journey ahead.

During the winter season, all nature slows down energetically for a long rest period. Animals hibernate in their warm dens, birds migrate to warmer climates, and trees endure the snow with a peaceful rest. This is how the earth recharges and restores its balance. Deep healing involves deep rest.

The vibrant growth of spring and summer necessitates that nature enters an energetically opposite state for a time each year, recharging its energy reserves to best support an exciting output of life and creation. It is nature’s yin to its yang; one cannot exist without the other. Nature constantly strives for balance.

People are creatures of nature. And we are best served if we follow the laws of nature as closely as possible. So as we enter another holiday season, give yourself permission to slow down and stay indoors. Sleep in instead of waking up early in the morning to go to the gym. After dinner, put away your laptop and smartphone, relax with a glass of wine (or hot tea) next to a warm fire and go to bed early. Remember to enjoy the moments and take life at a slow pace. And maybe you’ll find that when spring arrives again, you’ll feel better than ever: refreshed and bursting with energy to take on all of life’s exciting challenges.
