If you want to see the truth, do not entertain opinions for or against anything. Contrasting what you like is a disease of the mind.
When the deep meaning of things is not understood, the essential peace of the mind is disturbed in vain. The Way is perfect like a vast space in which nothing is lacking and nothing is too much. Indeed, it is due to our choice to accept or reject that we fail to see the true nature of things.
Those who do not live by the one Way fail in both activity and inaction, in assertion and denial. To deny the reality of things is to miss their reality; to assert the emptiness of things is to miss their reality. The more you talk and think about it, the further you stray from the truth. Stop talking and thinking, and there’s nothing you won’t be able to know.
To return to the root is to find the meaning, but to chase appearances is to miss the source. At the moment of inner enlightenment there is a transcendence of appearance and emptiness. The changes that seem to take place in the empty world we call real only because of our ignorance.
Don’t look for the truth; just stop harboring opinions. Do not remain in the dualistic state – carefully avoid such pursuits. If there is even a trace of this and that, of good and evil, the spirit essence will be lost in confusion. Even though all dualities arise from the One, do not even be attached to this One.
In this void the two are indistinguishable and each contains the entire world within itself. If you do not distinguish between coarse and fine, you will not be tempted by prejudices and opinions. Living on the Great Way is neither easy nor difficult, but those with limited vision are fearful and indecisive; the faster they rush, the slower they go, and clinging (attachment) cannot be limited; even to be attached to the idea of enlightenment is to err.
Just let things take their own course and there will be no comings or goings. Obey the nature of things (your own nature) and you will walk freely and undisturbed. When the mind is bound, the truth is hidden, for everything is dark and unclear, and the burdensome practice of judging brings with it annoyance and weariness. What benefits can be derived from distinction and separation? If you want to follow the One Way, don’t even hate the world of senses and ideas. Indeed, fully accepting it is identical with true Enlightenment.
The wise man does not pursue goals, but the foolish man chains himself. There is one truth, not many; Differences arise from the persistent needs of the ignorant. Seeking the Spirit with the (discerning) mind is the greatest of all mistakes. Peace and unrest arise from illusion; with enlightenment there is no likes and dislikes. All dualities arise from ignorant inferences. They are like dreams or flowers in the sky: it is foolish to try to grasp them. Profit and loss, good and evil: such thoughts must finally be abolished at once.
If the eye never sleeps, all dreams will naturally cease. When the mind makes no distinction, the ten thousand things are as they are, of one single essence. To understand the mystery of this One Essence is to be freed from all entanglements. When all things are seen equally, the timeless Self-essence is achieved. In this causeless, relationless state, no comparisons or analogies are possible. Consider motion stationary and stationary in motion, both motion and rest disappear. When such dualities cease to exist, Oneness itself cannot exist.
No law or description applies to this ultimate finality. For the unified mind that is in accordance with the Way, all self-centered striving ceases. Doubts and indecision disappear and living in true faith is possible. With a single stroke we are freed from bondage; nothing clings to us and we cling to nothing. Everything is empty, clear, self-illuminating, without effort of the mind. Here thoughts, feelings, knowledge and imagination are of no value. In this world of suchness there is no self, nor anything other than the self.
To immediately come into harmony with this reality, simply say when doubt arises, “Not two.” In this ‘not two’ nothing is separated, nothing excluded. No matter when or where, enlightenment means entering into this Truth. And this truth goes beyond extension or reduction in time or space; in it a single thought is ten thousand years. Emptiness here, emptiness there, but the infinite universe is always before your eyes. Infinitely large and infinitely small; no difference, because definitions have disappeared and boundaries are no longer visible.
The same with Being and Non-Being. Don’t waste time with doubts and arguments that have nothing to do with this. One thing, all things: moving and mingling, without distinction. Living in this realization means that you have no fear of non-perfection. Living in this faith is the path to non-duality, because the non-dual is one with a trusting mind.
Words! The Way of Meditation is beyond language, for there is no yesterday, no tomorrow, no today.
