How to Choose A Vibrator?!

While it is generally agreed upon that Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville invented the first vibrator in the early 1880s, it is a myth that its original intention was meant for curing “hysteria” in women. And while people since the dawn of time have sought out creative ideas for sexual satisfaction, it wasn’t until the 1970s that women truly started to experiment with vibrators specifically designed to enhance their sexual experiences.

Now, the sky’s the limit. In fact, according to a report conducted by BusinessWire, “Vibrators, one of the segments (of the global sex toy market) analyzed in the report, is projected to grow to reach US$25.9 Billion by 2026”.

But sometimes, with choice comes overwhelm. And that’s understandable if you’re seeking a fun way to spice things up! Here are some things to keep in mind when you’re on a quest for a toy:

  • Would you like a vibrator that penetrates the vagina? That falls under the “internal” category.
  • Are you turned on by clitoral stimulation? Then look for something “external” that you can apply to your clitoris (and anywhere else on your body).
  • Some toys provide both external and internal vibration – why settle for just one if you’re intrigued by both?
  • Get personal. Toys come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and some may offer several pulsation options as well as stimulation type (vibration vs. more of a sucking or licking sensation).
  • Look for materials that are non-toxic and safe. This article from mindbodygreen.com offers good advice for those concerned about chemicals and materials that may not be entirely good for you.
  • Shop at reputable stores/websites. Not all toys are created equal, and we recommend seeking advice from the experts who have training and a strong knowledge base of the latest offerings.
