The way we approach a situation usually affects the end result. When we walk into a room angry and angry, we can explode with frustration as tensions escalate. On the other hand, if we take a deep breath and approach a situation from a place of understanding, we can gain a deeper level of appreciation and see a new side to the story.
When you change your way of thinking, you start to see people and events from different perspectives. Doing this will give you the opportunity to change your entire worldview. Anger melts away, frustration disappears and you are left with a clean slate. Each situation gives you the opportunity to set new boundaries and adjust your emotional output, or how much of your Qi you are willing to devote to this emotion.
Imagine being angry at your colleague for his input into a shared project. You don’t feel like they’ve done their best work, and the boss’s criticism of the project falls on you. Do you have the right to be angry? Yes of course. But ask yourself this: is it worth it? How much of yourself are you willing to devote to this emotion? What should you do to regain the Qi you lose through frustration and anger? And what could you use that Qi for?
Asking yourself these questions gives you time to pause and reset the moment. Instead of reacting, how can you let go, change your emotional response, and move on? You may be surprised by the things that change when you approach people and situations from this new lens. Save your Qi! Instead, use it to heal, grow, and move on to greater things in life.
