The purpose of life
I believe that the purpose of life is to be happy. From the moment of birth, every person wants happiness and not suffering. Neither social conditioning, nor education, nor ideology has any influence on this. From the core of our being we simply desire contentment. I don’t know if the universe, with its countless galaxies, stars and planets, has a deeper meaning or not, but in any case it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of living a happy life to lead. for ourselves. That’s why it’s important to discover what will bring the greatest degree of happiness.
How to achieve happiness
To begin with, it is possible to divide any form of happiness and suffering into two main categories: mental and physical. Of the two, the mind exerts the greatest influence on most of us. Unless we are seriously ill or deprived of our basic needs, our physical condition plays a secondary role in life. When the body is happy, we pretty much ignore it. However, the mind records every event, no matter how small. Therefore, we must devote our most serious efforts to establishing mental peace.
From my own limited experience, I have discovered that the greatest degree of inner peace comes from the development of love and compassion.
The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater our own sense of well-being and purpose becomes. Cultivating a close, warm feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. This helps us to remove any fears and insecurities we have and gives us the strength to deal with any obstacles. It is the ultimate source of success in life.
As long as we live in this world, we will definitely encounter problems. If we lose hope and become discouraged at such times, we diminish our ability to deal with difficulties. On the other hand, if we remember that not only ourselves but everyone must suffer, this more realistic perspective will increase our resolve and our ability to overcome problems. With this attitude, every new obstacle can be seen as another valuable opportunity to improve our minds!
Thus, we can gradually strive to become more compassionate, that is, we can develop both genuine sympathy for the suffering of others and the will to help take away their pain. As a result, our own serenity and inner strength will increase.
The purpose of compassion in the world
Finally, I would like to briefly expand my thoughts beyond the subject of this short piece and make a broader point: individual happiness can contribute in a profound and effective way to the overall betterment of our entire human community.
Because we all share an identical need for love, it is possible to feel as if everyone we meet, no matter the circumstances, is a brother or sister. No matter how new the face or how different the clothes and behavior, there is no significant separation between us and other people. It is foolish to dwell on outward differences, because our fundamental nature is the same.
Ultimately, humanity is one and this little planet is our only home. If we are to protect this home of ours, each of us must experience a vibrant sense of universal altruism. Only this feeling can remove the self-centered motives that cause people to cheat and abuse each other.
If you have a sincere and open heart, you naturally feel self-esteem and self-confidence, and you do not have to fear others.
I believe that at every level of society – familial, tribal, national and international – the growth of compassion is the key to a happier and more successful world. We don’t have to become religious, nor do we have to believe in an ideology. All it takes is for each of us to develop our good human qualities.
I try to treat everyone I meet like an old friend. This gives me a genuine feeling of happiness. It is the practice of compassion.
