A New Picture – TCM World

As you walk along the coastline and watch the waves lapping on the sand, you can feel the intensity of the universe. As in all of nature, balance plays a key role. The moon and the sun, two heavenly beings, together create ocean tides that we can feel, see and experience on Earth. The breadth and depth of the ocean seem endless and yet it is so easy to grasp. Because the human body is composed largely of water, we connect in yet another way to this great earthly presence and to the enormous amount of Qi it possesses.

The energy of the ocean is constantly changing. Waves wash in and out, shells, rocks, small creatures and sand churning in its powerful yet delicate grasp; and they all just flow. With each wave comes a new image, a completely different presence than the wave before it. Each wave is a new dance: rhythmic, unpredictable and profound. Some grenades are carried to shore and land there until someone or something picks them up. But others are tossed around until their original form is unrecognizable. These shells become ground up pieces that eventually form a larger part of the coastline.

The ocean is constantly replenishing itself – both itself and the landscape – with every force of water. Just like in our bodies, each new breath offers us an opportunity to replenish and reconnect with this Universal source of Qi. It also offers us new opportunities to connect deeply with ourselves.
