The card index contains greetings for virtually every occasion: anniversaries and birthdays, holidays and “miss you” days, and good wishes for a speedy recovery and healing. These get well wishes are nice to send to someone who is ill. But what if we replaced the word “get” with the word “stay”? The meaning of the message would certainly change.
“Stay Healthy” sends a message, not of healing and hope, but of constant health. If you stay healthy, you maintain your health – you are in balance. So the next time you see a friend who looks youthful, healthy and vibrant, buy him or her a get well soon card. But make sure you cross out “get” and change it to “stay.”
Here are some tips to stay healthy this winter:
1. Dress warmly and cover yourself: Protect your skin in cold and windy weather. Dress up when you’re outside and wear socks when you’re inside.
2. Catch your ZZZs: Take a cue from nature. Everything turns inward and relaxes during the long, cold winter season. Take this time to rest deeply and recharge your batteries.
3. Warm it up: Eat hot, cooked foods and drinks, and season your food with warming spices, such as cinnamon, turmeric, nutmeg and ginger.
4. Practice Qigong: A physical symptom is a reflection of what is happening inside. Practicing Qigong will help you stay balanced throughout the winter and into the coming year.
