For some, the word “detox” means a strict diet involving frequent bathroom trips and general discomfort, but are we paying enough attention to the gentler, more natural ways to promote detoxification? Our bodies do it on their own all the time. Our liver is constantly processing, the kidneys are constantly filtering, and even our skin releases toxins through our pores. There are ways to make these natural processes more efficient so that we don’t always have to resort to more extreme methods of detoxing. When our organs and body systems are healthy and functioning at optimal levels, our bodies will naturally maintain a more balanced environment. This means clearer skin, a sharper mind, more energy and stamina, better sleep, lowered stress levels and just an overall feeling of awesomeness.

Liver and kidneys

The best-known organs of elimination are our liver and our kidneys. There are many ways we can support them. The simplest and most accessible approach is to increase our water intake and reduce our consumption of alcohol, sugary drinks and caffeine. Sugar can be just as harmful as alcohol, wreaking havoc on every organ and body system. To take it a step further, we can use supplements and herbs to help optimize the function of these two organs; For example, you can replace your coffee with dandelion root tea. Dandelion naturally supports detoxification, and roasted Dandelion has a dark color and an earthy taste, like coffee. Just add milk or cream to satisfy your coffee cravings.

In addition to dandelion root, there are many more plants that can rejuvenate and optimize your liver and kidneys. Many of these medicinal herbs can be found in WishGardens’ detox-boosting formulas, such as Kidney Strength Daily Support, Liver Strength, and Deep Cleanse Reset & Flourish. All three of these formulas are ‘tonics’, meaning you can use them for longer periods of time, and we will get even more benefit from them over time. Liver Strength and Kidney Strength are great if you want to specifically target one organ. Deep Cleanse Reset & Flourish is a great 3-in-1 hitter, supporting the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system.

Skin and digestion

Our digestive system and our skin health are closely linked. We absorb our nutrients and eliminate waste and toxins through our digestive tract. When our digestive tract is not working optimally, our skin has to take up the slack as the body detoxes. We must not forget that our skin is an organ, and if we do not absorb our nutrients properly, its functioning is affected. This can lead to blemishes, excessively dry or oily skin and dull or irritated skin. Moreover, clogged and clogged pores cannot properly excrete toxins through sweat. We want our digestive tract and skin to be clean conduits for everything that goes in and everything that comes out!

Avoiding foods that are overly processed, fried, sugary, or cooked in oils high in Omega 6 will give your belly a break and make your skin glow! Adding green juices or smoothies provides a good dose of nutrients and fiber to aid detoxification and digestion. Taking our Badass Bitters Digestive Aid before consuming meals will promote enzyme production and support the entire digestive process and nutrient absorption. The bitter herbs also support our liver function – they are a 2 in 1 digestion and detoxification aid! If your skin needs some extra love, the Clear Complexion formula can give you the boost you need with liver-supporting herbs like burdock root and dandelion, while dewy and soft skin is supported with soothing calendula and hormone-balancing red clover.

Lymphatic system

Our lymphatic system is a crucial team player in the detoxification process, but it isn’t talked about as often. Our lymphatic system is a whole network of blood vessels in which the lymph nodes drain from the tissues into the blood. There are approximately 600 lymph nodes in the human body, which can put into perspective how important the health and movement of this system really is! There are a few simple ways to optimize this system: breathing exercises, physical activity, drinking more clean water, and my favorite… herbs!

I bet most have never considered that breathing helps with detoxification, but there is scientific evidence and a whole host of other benefits that come with it. Our bodies are filled with lymphatic fluid, but no organ to pump or circulate it. Deep breathing creates a pumping action that stimulates the lymphatic system to transport toxins into our bloodstream, where they are then detoxified by the liver. Pretty cool, huh? And intentional deep breathing also supports our nervous system and mental health. The same goes for exercise, which is a great way to promote pumping, sweat out toxins, and promote mental health. Do not forget to rehydrate with purified water that promotes the removal of toxins and the cleansing of this system.

For additional support, there are many plant-based allies that have an affinity with the lymphatic system. Lymph Mover has a balanced blend of herbs that help stimulate the lymphatic system for optimal drainage and cleansing.

Detoxing doesn’t have to be intimidating, and you don’t have to spend the weekend in your bathroom trying to become a brighter version of yourself. Give your body some extra love and let it do what it was designed to do naturally!
