2. Hand tools that make homestead cooks a breeze
A well -equipped kitchen is not complete without the right tool. These are the unfortunate heroes of my kitchen that make daily tasks faster, easier and more pleasant.
Good quality knives: A sharp knife of high quality is not negotiable in my kitchen. I rely on the knife of my chef for just about everything – from chopping vegetables to cutting meat. I also hold a sturdy mating knife at hand for smaller tasks such as peeling fruit or dice of herbs. With well-balanced, sharp blades, the prep work not only makes it easier, but also safer.
Fullstar All-in-1 Vegetable Hobbelster, Mandoline Slicer & Cheese Rasp: This all-in-one tool is an absolute savior in my kitchen. It can chop, dice, cut and even spiral shapes in seconds in seconds. Whether I prepare ingredients for stir-fry, make homemade fries or shred cheese, the Fullstar tool makes everything faster and more efficient. I think it’s great that it even comes with a handheld spiralizer for making vegetarian noodles. It is versatile, easy to clean and does not take up much space to make a must-have for every homesteader.
Kitchen scale: My kitchen scale gets a lot of use, especially when I am baking or storing food. It is great to accurately measure ingredients on weight, which is so much more precise than the use of volume measurements. I also trust it when I have propagated large batches of food for freezing or looking. A good kitchen scale is an indispensable tool to ensure consistent results in all kinds of recipes.
Hand rail/Zester: The grid/zester is great for adding a clear citrus shovel of recipes, and it is essential for grating fresh ginger or garlic.
Food Mill: My food mill is indispensable during the harvest season. I use it to easily remove skins and seeds from tomatoes when I make sauces or make. It is also perfect for making smooth apple sauce and other purees.
Mortel and Stamper: For grinding herbs, making pesto or stamping herbs, my mortar and pestle are indispensable. There is something satisfying about the tactile experience to sharpen things by hand, and it makes such a difference in the taste of homemade herb mixtures or herbal pastes.
Protections and wooden spoons: Simple but effective, these tools are used every day. My gardes come in handy for everything, from hunting pancake fittings to making salad dressings. Wooden spoons are my favorite stews, the jaring of vegetables or mixing dough. They don’t scratch my cooking utensils and they last for years if they are well cared for.
