Looking for a fun summer traditional activity? Consider doing some plant abnormalities!
Planting off are a great way to capture a fast image of a plant if your children do not like drawing. The rubs can be added to their earth or herb news, along with notes about the plant.
They also make a great way to decorate empty cards that can be used to write notes to friends and family or given as gifts.
The best thing is that they can be made with things that you probably already have at hand – colored pencils!
Set your table with supplies before collecting the children. You need:
-Blank paper such as computer paper
-Crayons
-Blank note cards of cardboard paper
-Develop
-pair of scissors
-Glue stick
-pen
Once you have collected the basic supplies, take your children outside to collect leaves. Search for leaves that have good veins. Some of my favorite leaves to rub his strawberries, grapes, clover and plantain.
Place a few leaves on a sheet of paper, with the veins facing up.
Place a second sheet of paper over the first sheet to cover the leaves.
Develop the paper on the colored pencils and gently rub them over the surface of the leaf. You can feel the leaf with your fingers and rub the edges to find the contours.
Don’t forget the stems!
Once you have different rubs, you can use a pen to write the name of the plant next to each rubbing.
Cut out the leaves and add them to the empty note cards. If you use cardboard, cut it in two and fold it before adding the leaves.
You can also add something to your nature/herbal diary and write information about the plant next to it.
Have you and your children ever made plant abnormalities? What was your favorite thing to do with it? Share your stories and experiences in the comments!
