Hydrangeas add beautiful pops of color to the summer landscape. Depending on the variety, these flowers are available in shades of blue, purple and even pure white, and sometimes they bloom in multiple colors on the same branch. Gardeners can even experiment with changing the acidity of the soil to change the color of the blooms.
But as beautiful as these flowers are in the summer, they look like a collection of brown sticks from late fall to early spring. If someone comes across a hydrangea out of season, they may mistakenly think the plant is dead and even dig it out of the ground. But those who know the beauty of hydrangeas see their potential. They know they have to be patient and wait for the plant’s dormant period to end to allow for massive growth. If we give it space to rest and grow again, the final bloom will be beautiful.
Can you give yourself space to rest and space to regrow? As humans, we are in a state of constant change. Our lives continue to move forward, and as they do, we learn and grow in many ways. When we focus on the dead branches – or on what no longer works – we lose sight of our potential.
