What is a Tincture?

What is a tincture anyway? A tincture is a liquid herb extract of a certain strength. A tincture made of dry vegetable material is usually a ratio of 1 to 5 plants to weight to extracting liquid per volume. Tinctures made from fresh, undressed plant material are usually 1 to 2 ratio.

How are tinctures made?

The components of the plant are usually extracted with a solvent that is a mixture of alcohol and water, although glycerin or vinegar are sometimes used. Some voters are soluble in water and some are only alcoholic soluble. Fresh or dried plant material is steeped in a solvent for a certain period (usually measured in weeks) and then tense of plant materials. The liquid becomes a concentrated mixture of the herb components.

Do tinctures taste bad?

Most tinctures taste earthy and often not bitter or strong. To reduce the taste of herbalinctures, it is recommended that tinctures are diluted with a different liquid. Many people prefer to take their tincture in a small amount of water, tea, kombucha or juice. If it is put in hot water and is soaked for about five minutes, much of the alcohol will disappear. Diling your tincture in another liquid does not remove its effectiveness.

How to take tinctures

Tinctures come in different delivery methods. At Wishgarden Herbs we have droppeltop bottles, pump spray bottles and jigger cups (such as the medicine cups on top of freely available medicines). Always follow the recommended dosage that is printed on the labels of your tincture. We recommend adding the recommended amount of water, juice, kombucha, tea or other liquid and drink it. Herbal professionals can also take and swallow the dropper, spray or Jigger Cup directly. Because tinctures contain alcohol, do not place the tincture fluid under your tongue because it is sensitive and can puncture. Here is a quick video about the use of any Tinctures delivery method.

Why are liquid herbal extracts more effective than capsules or gum -like herb supplements?

Liquids are absorbed quickly and easily by the body. This allows you to adjust your portion to meet your needs, they are easy to swallow. Putting the drops under the tongue is the fastest way to get herbs in the system.
