Now more than ever, it is critical that individuals find ways to bring harmony, peace, and alignment to their mental and physical well-being in healthy, uplifting ways. Grounding is the perfect solution for people looking to improve clarity and focus, while restoring energy and promoting alignment.
Grounding is not only a spiritual practice, but also a very practical practice that can improve anyone’s ability to focus, be clear-minded, and even get more done. When you keep your feet on the ground, you are more at peace with yourself, more patient with others, and balanced in tackling whatever the day throws at you.
Here are 5 quick and easy grounding tips:
- Find your feet: Spend some time reacquainting yourself with your posture. Grounded, safe postures start (unsurprisingly) with the ground. Feel your feet on the ground and let the earth come to you – then bring the earth into you and fill yourself with that energy. Try walking on the ground barefoot – this will help you reconnect with Mother Nature and your connection to the Earth.
- Find your breath: Try full body breathing. Focus on connecting your breathing with your feet. Everyone has their own unique breathing pattern that can be expanded. Learn to breathe more deeply and focus that breath to more parts of your body, including your feet. This helps to remind us that we are more than the mind, and that we have support with us at all times (literally and figuratively).
- Get moving: Think of the difference between a lake fed by a stream and a lake that is stagnant. The lake fed with moving water remains clear and balanced, while the lake without current becomes clogged and cloudy. Take time for a walk in nature, or even a few extra laps around the kitchen island, and keep the energy in your body moving.
- Drink water: Nothing can live without water, not even you. Water nourishes your cells and also acts as a conductor for electricity in the body. Ensuring proper hydration can help keep your mind thinking clearly and your body functioning optimally. Water helps you regulate your temperature; allows oxygen and nutrients to move through the body; and energetically speaking, channels vitality through the tissues of the body!
- Call a friend: There is nothing more grounding than a deep and enriching conversation with a good friend. Yes, we’re all coming out of our COVID isolation a little shaky on the communication front, and there’s no better time than to pick up the phone and invite a friend for a walk outside (or a walk and talk, if they live somewhere else) and share a heart-to-heart.
Grounding techniques help you regain calm when you experience emotional dysregulation. These emotional problems occur when you feel overwhelmed, overstimulated, experience difficult emotions, or even have a panic attack.
