Langri Tangpa’s eight verses for training the mind
Translated by Lama Zopa Rinpoche
- Determined to obtain the greatest possible benefit from all sentient beings, who are more precious than a wish-fulfilling jewel, I will always hold them dearest to my heart.
- In the company of others I will always regard myself as the lowest of all, and from the depths of my heart esteem others dear and exalted.
- Watchful, as soon as a delusion arises in my mind, endangering myself and others, I will face it without delay and turn it away.
- Whenever I see beings who are evil in nature and overcome by violent, negative actions and suffering, I will hold such rare ones dear, as if I had found a precious treasure.
- When others, out of jealousy, mistreat me with name-calling, insults, and the like, I will accept defeat and offer victory to others.
- When someone from whom I have benefited and in whom I have great hope does terrible harm to me, I will regard that person as my holy guru.
- In short, both directly and indirectly, I offer all my mothers every happiness and benefit. I will secretly take upon myself all their harmful deeds and sufferings.
- Unsullied by the stains of the superstition of the eight worldly things, may I, by regarding all phenomena as illusory, be freed from the bondage of attachment.
