The quieter days of winter, with snow on the ground and a chill in the air, are nature’s reminder to us to slow down, be kind to ourselves, and recharge our entire system. It’s easy in this world to just keep going, month after month, without ever checking within ourselves to see if we’re really on the right track, or if we need to correct course in small or big ways.
When we take time to enjoy winter, slow down, have earlier nights, sleep a little more and take time to think, the whole body is recharged. The physical body needs that delay and so does the energetic body. We invest the time to reflect and regroup so that we can move forward in congruence, making sure that the energy spent goes to what really matters and is not scattered in a billion directions that are not top priorities .
The ability to make an impact in this world is directly related to the ability to take care of yourself first. When you are in tune with your own energetic, emotional and physical needs and are able to stop when necessary, rather than pushing on until you get sick, life becomes sustainable and you have much more joy.
Give yourself the gift of pampering to fully embrace this winter. Relax, take an evening bath and go to bed with a book that interests you. Come home after work and make a simple salad for dinner before doing a few minutes of yoga and sitting in meditation. Provide a healthy meal for your family on the way home from work so you don’t have to cook or clean up. Keep it simple and enjoy the process: you’re worth it!
Take a few quiet minutes to do this exercise, in the middle of winter. Grab a hot cup of tea and a piece of paper. Make this fun and place it where it can’t be overlooked.
- Write down what worked last year, your successes, brilliant triumphs and joys.
- Make it clear what you want to let go of from your past: has your energy gone to places where you no longer need to direct it?
- Set intentions. How do you ensure that you remain a high priority in 2019?
