Meditation and essential oils
As a yoga teacher and oil enthusiast, I have been incorporating essential oils into my classes and meditation practices for years… Initially it was a way to treat the student during savasana via head massage (yes, they are divine!) Now I use the oils as an aid to the meditation practice to deepen, or to make it a little more attractive, relaxing and delicious, nice smelling… Here are 3 of my favorite essential oil rituals when practicing meditation.
Balance
(Spir leaf, Ho wood leaf, frankincense resin, blue tansy flower and blue chamomile flower)
An earthy blend that grounds your emotions so your entire body can feel completely at ease. I like to massage a few drops mindfully onto the soles of my feet before meditating. This mix is also helpful if you feel emotional or anxious throughout the day; just apply a drop or two to your wrists. I also recommend using this blend at night before bed as it will help you fall asleep.
Incense
My go-to oil for most meditations. I often apply a drop to my third eye center or spread about six drops. Frankincense is the most powerful essential oil for the mind. It promotes grounding, balancing and openness, connecting you to your spiritual self.
This oil is truly an all-rounder and you can use it at any time, but keep in mind that it is light sensitive, meaning it is not recommended to apply it to your third eye before sun exposure.
Elevation
(Lavandin flower, mandarin peel, lavender flower/leaf, amyris bark, clary sage flower/leaf, Hawaiian sandalwood wood, ylang ylang flower, hohout leaf, osmanthus flower, lemon myrtle leaf and balm flower/leaf essential oils)
As the name suggests, this blend is an uplifting and invigorating blend that is perfect for morning meditations. This blend is an attractive combination of essential oils that improve your mood, promote feelings of self-confidence and increase your energy. I recommend applying this oil to the pulse points of your wrists and neck before exercising or spreading.
