Check out G&STC Clinical Director Nicole Davis talking with Huffpost about pleasure activism.

Pleasure is essential

“Nicole Davis, a therapist and the clinical director at the Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center in New York City, thinks pleasure is all the more crucial for ‘everyone who isn’t a straight, cis, white, Christian, assigned male at birth person,’ as the right wing takes power in D.C.

‘Leaning into pleasure, finding ways to experience joy, [and] celebrating ourselves and our communities are all ways of stepping out and telling those folks that they cannot win,’ she said. ‘It’s saying, we’re here and we will be here, and they are going to have to bear witness to our refusal to succumb.’”

Why it’s a good idea to make “good sex” a new year’s resolution this year

Many folks think of sex as the ultimate stress reliever, and for some folks that is certainly the case! If you’re one of those people, then deciding that 2025 will be your year of “good sex,” seems like a great idea. For those of us who care about democracy, reproductive freedom, the rights of queer people, trans people, black and brown people, immigrants (you get the idea), the world will be a very scary place come January 20, 2025.

For that reason, leaning into any activities that make you feel good, that give you energy, that help you feel connected to other people, is a great idea! Sex, sexual activity, sexual pleasure can be a wonderful way to do this for many people, but it’s certainly not the only (or best) way. For example, I’ve worked with many people who say they wish they could receive hugs from people more often. Hugs are also a great way to feel connected and grounded, and don’t have to be sexual at all.
