Collecting your supplies
Before you start plants, it will have the right necessities for you for success. This is what you need:
1. Pepper seed – this year I grow sweet peppers, jalapeños and poblanos. I have selected high-quality, organic seeds from my favorite seed farmHigh mowing seeds. If you choose your own varieties, search for seeds labeled with heirloom, organic or disease -resistant for the best results.
2. Seed start mix – A light, well-drained sperm-start mix is crucial for strong root development. I use my own homemade seed-start mix, which is perfect for soil block and seed trays:
Homemade seed-start mix recipe:
-
-
2-1 pounds of coconut coconut blocks + water blew into a downy, moisture development base.
-
Compost of 2 gallons (32 cups) – add organic fabric and useful microbes.
-
6 cups of vermiculite – helps to maintain moisture.
-
6 cups of Perlite – improves drainage and aeration.
-
2/3 cup of seedling fertilizers – offers essential nutrients for young plants.
-
This mix ensures that your seedlings have the perfect balance between moisture retention, drainage and nutrients.
3. Seed boxes and containers – I prefer soil blocking, but you can also use seed drawers with individual cells, peat pots or recycled containers. Whatever you choose, make sure they have drainage holes to prevent overwater.
4. Growing lights – Peppers need bright light daily 14-16 hours to become strong and prevent Legginess. I use full-spectrum LED grow lights, position them 2-3 inches above the seedlings and adjust the height as they grow.
5. WarmTemat – Pepper seed germinate best at 75-85 ° F. A seedling heat mate placed under the drawers keeps the soil warm, which improves the germ speeds considerably. As soon as the seeds sprout, I remove the mat to prevent overheating.
6. Moist dome or plastic wrap – Covering seed bins with a damp dome or plastic wrap helps to keep the moisture levels stable during the germination. As soon as seedlings appear, I remove the lid to improve the air flow and prevent mold.
7. Water tools – A spray bottle or bottom water drawer keeps the soil moist without disturbing delicate seeds. Overwater can cause damping disease, so I always strive for even moist-not moist-soil.
I just got this BOL WATERER And I really love it.
