Charge yourself with the strong energy of the summer solstice! Solstice, derived from the Latin words Sol, meaning ‘sun’, and sister, which means “to stand still,” the summer solstice is the day when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This first official summer calendar day in the Northern Hemisphere also features the longest period of daylight: a day when the sun simply seems to stand still. Celebrated since ancient times, the summer solstice marks one of the most powerful seasonal transitions of the year. Nature is energetic at its best yangfilling life with light, expansion, energy and growth.
Our sun has the power and energy to move ocean waves and warm our planet. Without this there would be no life on Earth. Not to mention, without the sun, the Earth would lose its orbit and we would be lost in space! Because of the centering power of the sun, the summer solstice is an incredibly energetic day.
As nature beings, we reap the benefits of the enormous energy of the summer solstice. Take advantage of this increased energy and practice Qigong, meditate, eat lightly and rest to recharge your mind and health. Since it is a time of maximum fire energy – associated with the Heart – and the hottest days of the year are yet to come, do your best to remain peaceful in mind, body and spirit.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice begins on Wednesday, June 21 at 9:57 a.m. EDT. This is a powerful time to practice Qigong and attune yourself to the energies of nature. Maintain the meditative posture, The dragon stands between heaven and earth, and feel the uplifting effect of this powerful energy field.
