Words of Wisdom: Becoming Flexible

What does it actually mean to be flexible? Athletes have one definition, while philosophers have the other. There are many ways to look at this word, and many corners to explore it completely. The simplest definition comes from the physical body. When our bodies are flexible, our muscles and joints move smoothly and free and can turn and turn in incredible ways.

But being flexible is so much more than a physical capacity. Practicing flexibility includes the willingness to hear and accept their positions without judgment; To understand and let go of the many things that are outside of your control; And to see situations from multiple perspectives.

We were born with the wisdom and the ability to be flexible. We often use this skill in dealing with events with regard to nature, but we often do not recognize how we can apply it in our daily relationships. Let’s say you have planned a holiday for a tropical destination. Then a storm in your area ensures that flights are canceled and you must postpone your journey. Yes, you are frustrated, but you are not angry with the weather. Although it is disappointing, you acknowledge that things like this happen. After all, nature is unpredictable. If we can let this kind of situations go, why can’t we let go of the many human interactions that disturb us?

What happens in this reality at any time is connected to so much more that happens at an invisible level. It is the tip of the iceberg of an unseen reality. Although we cannot see all visible and invisible aspects of an event, we can feel them. Deep in us we have the ability to let things go, but we have to practice this skill more and apply it to our meetings – with family, friends, colleagues, others – and the many situations of life.
