Ana Lins dos Guimarães Peixoto, better known by her pseudonym Cora Coralina, was a Brazilian poet born in 1889, known for her cakes and pastries and for her beautiful words. She knew from an early age that she had a gift for poetry, but at that time, women were expected to be mothers and wives; expressing himself as a poet was simply not acceptable. So Ana got married and had four children. It wasn’t until she was in her sixties that Ana adopted her new name and began to follow her life’s passion: writing poetry. She supported her new lifestyle by selling sweets and was soon recognized by many influential Brazilian writers. Cora Coralina, who never gave up, published her first collection of poetry at the age of 76.
“I am that woman who climbed the mountain of life, removed stones and planted flowers.”
She may have waited 76 years for her dream to become a reality, but she didn’t give up. Not only did she trip over the stones in her path, she removed them and planted flowers instead.
