Prepare your snow kicks – the full snow -moon of February will reach peak lighting at 8:53 am Est on Wednesday 12 February 2025.
Everything in a name
Every full moon has a certain meaning and silent power. The name of the Snow Moon comes from different places, with roots in Indian, early American and European sources. Traditionally, the name of every full moon goes beyond the event itself, to include the entire moon month. The name of this full moon is fairly simple. According to data from the National Weather Service, the snowy month is on average in the United States. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver, who had visited the Dakota, wrote that the name for this period was the snow man, “because more snow drops in the winter in the winter in the winter.”
Because animals are not so active during this time and made abundant snow difficult to hunt and follow, Indians would also refer to this moon as the hunger moon. Other names for the full moon of February are connected to animals – Eagle Moon (Cree), Racoon Moon (Dakota), Groundhog Moon (Algonquin) and Bear Moon (Ojibwe and Tlingit). Throughout history, the human desire shows to name natural events after animals, weather, temperatures, colors and seasons the old consciousness of the flow of nature and its connection with all things, visible and invisible. The full moon connects us deeply with nature and its purpose.
Sun and moon: visible and invisible
The Moon represents the entire invisible world; The sun represents the visible world. Living things trust both the sun and the moon. But while the sun has to show itself every day, the full moon is invisible every month for a day, except one day. It balances a whole month of energy in just one nice show.
In the full moon we see Yin and Yang, day and night, invisible and visible. Together with the sun, the moon has the power to control the rising and fall of the ocean tides. Seventy percent of our earth – and coincidentally, our bodies – consists of water. You are a being of nature, connected to the wonderful power and energy of the moon. Every time you prevent a challenge, you let the invisible but powerful essence of the moon rejuvenate. Let it be a source of cleaning, a kind of reset button – a clean slate.
Weather connections
Did you know that the moon also influences the weather? Moon weather observers say that the moon brings prince in the spring and autumn and periods of extreme cold in the winter. Researchers have demonstrated a clear correlation between the full moon, clouds, rainfall and thunder. Even weather data confirm that the first few days after a new moon or a full moon are usually rainy or stormy. There is an abundance of moon weather folklore that connects its shape, color or position in the night sky. An indicator is the horns of the moon. If the half moon is shown up, the moon can retain water, which leads to a dry period. If the Half Moon is about to, the precipitation will run away, causing rain to be brought. What will this full snow pane bring you – Clothing skies or snow?
Whatever the weather is, everything happens for the good. Can you see the good?
