The holidays are a wonderful time of appreciation for all of life’s gifts, both tangible and intangible. But for many of us, holiday cheer can be stressful and even exhausting. Many of us stay up late addressing cards and shopping for last-minute gifts, draining both our wallets and our energy reserves. Overdoing it can take its toll, especially in winter.
So how do you create balance during this fun season? Take nature’s cue and slow down! Just look around: the trees have dropped their leaves, some animals are hibernating and others are conserving their energy by eating the food they have stored over the past few months. If you’re already low on energy and high on stress, take a step back and remember: everything you do uses Qi. How do you spend your Qi? Can you find ways to conserve your Qi instead?
Consider eating light meals and resting as much as possible. Take time before, during and after your holiday gatherings to turn inward. Gather the family for a few quiet breaths, or teach everyone to hold the Qigong pose The dragon stands between heaven and earth. With a full moon this is the perfect time for some inner peace. Take care of yourself – mind, body and soul – this winter, to pave the way for a new year full of health and balance.
